2020: August to December in Images

I already did a recap of the first part of 2020 during the summer so thought I’d do another round-up to end this most ‘memorable’ of years.

Top image: Walking up a gap in the cliffs at Eagle’s Rock in the Sperrin Mountains, County Derry in early December

The first two are from a visit to Dunany Beach in County Louth in August. This was my first time out in a while after injuring my foot falling off my bicycle in June, and my first time standing on a beach in almost a year, so it did me the world of good.

Meeting a few friends for a walk at Gosford Forest Park in County Armagh later that month

Next are a couple from another catch-up walk at the lovely and not that well known Glenmore Scenic Walk near Ballygawley, County Tyrone in early September.

Back at Gosford Forest Park to try the mountain bike trails; an enjoyable afternoon though I was still a bit anxious after my fall

Ballyclog Old Church near Stewartstown, County Tyrone; this was my second visit to photograph a gravestone for a contact in Australia and I managed to locate it this time

A quick visit to Belfast in mid-September and a walk around the Titanic Quarter; I liked this view of a corner of the Titanic Belfast building against a near-cloudless sky

The Big Fish Sculpture, Belfast
Another shot from Belfast, looking across the River Lagan to the popular Big Fish sculpture

Onto a few shots from an enjoyable few days staying at a holiday cottage in County Sligo, also in September. The second shot is from the walk around the shore of Lough Talt and the third is from a hike up Knocknashee.

A view towards the peaks of Dart and Sawel in the Sperrins from the perimeter walk around An Creagán Visitor Centre in County Tyrone, from late September

Next are a couple of autumnal photos from October. The first is a tree catching the evening light taken from our back garden, followed by Springhill House in Moneymore, County Derry.

Onto a few photos from a quick trip over to Scotland at the start of November to collect the rest of my belongings. I debated going and cancelled an earlier trip but glad I went when I did as travel restrictions only got tougher as the virus situation worsened.

The first is an early morning shot from the ferry of the Antrim coastline at Islandmagee. The second was taken on a walk around the grounds of the AirBnB I stayed at within a holiday park in South Ayrshire; the rugged hill beyond is Knockdolian and I’d love to walk it whenever I get back over. The third is a zoomed-in view of Ailsa Craig from the harbour at nearby Ballantrae while I waited for my ferry back home.

A few photos now from an excellent 12km hike in the eastern Sperrin Mountains taking in the cliffs at Eagle’s Rock, early in December. It was glorious day up on the hills while much of the countryside below was covered in fog.

The last two are from one of my last walks of the year, a sunny winter’s afternoon walk at Peatlands Park with Monty.

Wishing a healthy and safe 2021 to anyone reading this ~ Martin

  1. Your round-ups are almost like a round-up for me too. Good to look back over the photos again. Happy New Year, hopefully we’ll get a few more hikes in 2021.
